Episode Description
A recent study shows that the pandemic has been associated with a three-fold increase in elevated depression in U.S. adults. Nearly 30% of American adults reported feeling depressed in an October 2021 study, up from 8.5% before the pandemic. Social media can be a major contributing factor. Most of us have probably experienced FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) or feelings of inadequacy when we compare our lives to others on social media, and we've heard about terms like imposter syndrome, but what does imposter syndrome mean and what can we do about it? This week we welcome special guests and co-founders of International Imposter Syndrome Awareness Day Nat Schooler, Kim-Adele Platts, and Lisa Ventura to discuss social media, depression, and imposter syndrome in children and adults and learn the skills you need to protect yourself and your kids from falling prey to social media depression and imposter syndrome.
My Connected Life
Thursday at 8 AM Pacific Time on VoiceAmerica Business Channel
We live in a fully connected world. We all use and share digital information in our daily activities, in our businesses, with our money, even for our health. I should know. My name is Tyler Cohen Wood. I’m a an award winning cybersecurity expert and former U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency Senior Intelligence Officer. My professional work helps keep your information secure and private. I know many technology secrets that keep our world safe. But I also have a secret that I share with 25 million other Americans. I suffer from a rare autoimmune disease that has no cure. My life has been disrupted over the past several years looking for answers to save myself, shuffling from doctor to doctor, specialist to specialist, trapped in an endless loop of siloed care that rarely gives answers to unexplained conditions. What I discovered on this tumultuous medical journey would change the course of my life, and in turn, give me the opportunity to bring my cybersecurity knowledge and my patient experience together. I’ve launched My Connected Life: Digital Health Disrupted, a talk show about the business of digital health. I’ll take you on a journey to better understand how to improve the patient experience, protect the privacy of our digital health information, and keep our cyber connected lives safe. Each week we’ll learn more about the latest digital trends to keep the cybersecurity of the entire healthcare ecosystem (and our sensitive medical data) within our control. The business of digital health is our business. I believe it’s time we learn to own it.
