The buzz: In a land far, far away. The beauty of IoT is doing new things with information from sensors that are nearly ubiquitous – in cars, homes, factories, and even remote locations like mines and oil rigs. But ingesting and analyzing this information presents a huge challenge. For example, when a sensor detects an oil rig equipment failure, the rig operator cannot wait for data to synchronize with a remote cloud service. We’ll explore the challenges and opportunities of gathering data from distant sources – “the Edge” – and harnessing it into localized and cloud-based systems. The experts speak. Bonnie D. Graham produced and hosted her first live talk radio show in 1998 on AM1240–WGBB, Long Island, NY’s oldest terrestrial radio station.
