Episode Description
The buzz: Auditor to Santa Claus: “You gave away 60 billion toys and didn’t get one receipt?” (FARCUS Comic Strip). As April 15 approaches each year, U.S. tax firms are deluged by clients’ last-minute filing requests, piles of disorganized papers and receipts, and emailed scanned documents. Will the Internet of Things reduce a CPA’s deadline-driven work? Reality check: Not right away for individual practitioners, but significantly for businesses. Planning and budgeting accuracy increases with real-time data. Continual fraud detection is feasible when live information streams through a detection algorithm. Welcome to the intersection of accounting and the IoT. The experts speak. Jeff Hattendorf, Macrospect: “All change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and so beautiful at the end” (Robin Sharma). Seth Marlow, Wells Fargo: “There comes a time in every man's life, and I've had plenty of them” (Casey Stengel). Join us for Accounting and the Internet of Things: Does This Compute?
