Obie Anthony

Obie Anthony

Obie Anthony was released October 2011 from a California sentence of life without the possibility of parole after 17 years of wrongful imprisonment. Obie, who always maintained his innocence, was freed after it was shown that he was convicted by prosecutorial misconduct, ineffective assistance of his lawyer and an eyewitness who admitted he lied during his testimony at trial. There was no physical evidence linking Obie to the crime. Currently living in Southern California, Obie was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and he and his three older sisters were raised in South Central Los Angeles by their mother. He still has family in Missouri, including the grandmother who stayed in contact during his years in prison. Before his arrest at 19-years-old, Obie worked for the California Conservation Corps working with firefighters around Camarillo.
