David Hornak

David Hornak lives and works in Holt, Michigan. He is the proud parent of two children, Olivia and Maxwell. He shares the load at home with his partner Anne. Hornak serves as the instructional leader (the principal) of Horizon Elementary in Holt, which is a year round school. His passion is centered on finding ways for children to feel successful each day. As a former young fives, kindergarten, first grade, and Reading Recovery teacher, Hornak has learned firsthand that by partnering with parents and creating a team atmosphere, together everyone accomplishes more.

Hornak has presented several times throughout Michigan on Year-Round Education, Building Knowledge as an Inexperienced Principal, Job Embedded Professional Development, Safe Routes to School, The Walking School Bus and Engaging Your School Community. His new line of inquiry is centered on wellness initiatives in school including before and after school fitness clubs, the Walking School Bus, Tone-up Tuesday (additional physical fitness activities every Tuesday in the classroom) and school vegetable gardens.

Hornak is a doctoral student at Central Michigan University in Educational Leadership. He recently earned one of seven national scholarships from the American Association of School Administrators. Hornak has been in education for nineteen years.
