Scott Schuelke
Scott Schuelke is the Autism Safety Specialist for the Autism Alliance of Michigan (AAOM) and has been instrumental in the autism safety training movement in Michigan. His dedication and efforts have resulted in high-quality trainings for law enforcement, emergency services, and communities (local service agencies, families, and education staff). Sgt. Schuelke has provided training on autism spectrum disorder, most common situations and best strategies for safe outcomes when the situation involves someone with autism spectrum or mental health disorder to over 10,000 individuals in Michigan. Sgt. Schuelke retired from the Lansing Police Department in 2010 where he served as a supervisor in the Investigations Division, Special Operations Unit, Special Tactics and Rescue Team, Liaison with the Lansing School District, and Road Patrol. Sgt. Schuelke assisted with the development of the Ingham County Safe Schools, a training to teach Ingham County school employees lock down procedures in case of an active violence incident. He was also was instrumental in developing Active Violence Incident Response Training for all law enforcement in Clinton, Eaton and Ingham Counties. Due to Sgt. Schuelke’s leadership the Autism Safety Trainings have been endorsed by Michigan Association of Chief’s of Police, Michigan Sheriffs’ Association, and the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Ferris State University. Sgt. Schuelke resides in St. Johns, Michigan with his wife and daughter.
