For the past 10 years, Nicole Forsyth has been the President and CEO of RedRover, a nonprofit organization that brings animals from crisis to care and strengthens the bond between people and animals. Empathy is a big part of her vision for RedRover, and this is cultivated throughout the organization, everything from how the staff work together and how they interact with clients, volunteers, donors and other organizations. Nicole believes empathy helps people connect better with animals and others and can prevent abuse and neglect. In 2007, Nicole initiated the RedRover Readers program to help children understand the emotional states of animals, explore positive relationship with a human-animal model and develop skills necessary for empathy. Nicole wrote the story component for a bilingual, interactive graphic novel and game app, The Restricted Adventures of Raja, for children ages 7-11 to help them understand emotional states, care for others and practice empathy.
