Diarmuid Byrne
Diarmuid Byrne, Managing Director at EquiRatings, was originally a corporate lawyer, working in Ireland’s premier law firm. Through a previous girlfriend (Olympian), and through his best friend, he fell in love with equestrian sport. He is unique in the equestrian world in that he has absolutely no background in it and can’t ride horses at all. His company, EquiRatings, has had a major impact in how equestrian sports, in particular the sport of eventing, is managed and understood. He advises federations, Olympic teams and broadcasters around the world – using unique EquiRatings’ data to find science and evidence behind what believed was simply art. His school friend Sam Watson is ranked in the top 10 in the world in eventing, and won a silver medal at the 2018 world championships. He also holds a first-class honours degree in data science and information systems. Together, they set up the company now at the forefront of the data revolution taking place within the equestrian industry.
