Ted O'Neill
Ted O'Neill was dean of admissions at the University of Chicago from 1987 until 2007, and was a lecturer in the humanities at Chicago from 1989-2017. Now retired, he was most recently employed as the head of admissions at Bard College Berlin, 2018-2019. Born in Chicago, having attended the public schools of Chicago, he went to Michigan State University where he earned a degree in American Studies, then taught in the Chicago public schools, then earned an AM degree in English Language and Literature in 1970 and continued on to study for the Ph.D. in English. His first admissions job was at the Seminar College at the New School for Social Research in New York City. He lives in Chicago with his wife, Bonnie Marcus. In 2013 he was awarded the National Association of Admissions Counselors' highest award, the Excellence in Education award, the first admissions office to have won that prestigious award.
